Questions Concerning Medicare:
Questions Concerning Medicare:

The confusion and misunderstanding of insurance products related to Medicare is primarily due to the variety of insurance plans, the limited subscription period, the conditions for joining and the late registration penalties. This article aims to give an introduction to everyone who is about to become eligible for Medicare and those who already have Medicare Part A and Part B. Understanding them will help to avoid unpleasant surprises in the future, and/or make optimal use of this medical coverage.

Who is entitled to Medicare?

The primary condition for receiving the original Medicare is:

- to be 65 years of age or has disability

- to be legally residing in the United States for at least 5 years,

- to have 40 quarters in the way Social Security Administration is calculating them, or have a spouse who has them.

If the above conditions are met, then the person may take advantage of the initial enrollment period. This period includes 7 months: 3 months before the date of birth, the month in which the person was born and 3 months after that period. Those who have health insurance through their employer and intend to keep it can join Medicare 63 days after health insurance with their employer is no longer in force. This is called the Special Enrollment Period. If these 63 days are omitted, a penalty may be imposed.

How do you apply for a Medicare?

If the person is at age of 65, Medicare is automatic. 3 months before the month in which the person was born, a Medicare card is sent, where the number with Medicare is marked and the two parts A and B are listed. The date of activation is also marked - the first day of the month in which the person was born. For example, for a person born in June, it will be noted:

- a hospital (part A) (06.01.1952)

- outpatient medical (Part B) (06.01.1952)

Where to apply for a Medicare?

● You can enroll via the Internet at the Social Security Office's website. This form is convenient, but it does not always work - as in cases where documents need to be provided.

● Another way is by calling The Service phone: 1-800-772-1213

● You can also go to the nearest Social Security Office. Ordinary American citizenship / green card, birth certificate or civil marriage certificate are required. The Office may have to be visited several times.

What else do you need to know about Medicare?

The original Medicare does not cover 100% of the cost of hospital and medical outpatient services. The part that Medicare must pay is significant, but there is a part that is popularly explained as 20% of the services being provided, and it isn’t covered. This requires the use of upgrading products offered by insurance companies. There are some that do not cost qualifiers anything.
